Isaiah Washington To Tutor
Isaiah Washington graciously agreed to be a mentor/acting coach to Jabril Muhammad as Jabril prepares to star in the film he wrote that was inspired by his life.
Isaiah recently invited Jabril to meet with him at the office of his non-profit,
The Gondobay Manga Foundation. Isaiah shared valuable insights about his career, his process and the term 'actorvist' which is one way he defines him self. "Actorvist" means he is both an Activist and an Actor = Actor-vist. It seems that each one informs the other.
Jabril was like a sponge as Isaiah continued to impart knowledge. He recommended many books and authors including, Ralph Ellison, Alice Walker, Gordon Parks, etc.
Isaiah spoke about how he got a DNA test that allowed him to trace his roots back to Africa as he discovered his mother was from a tribe in Sierra Leone. He then was moved to give back to the country and created the Gondo Bay Manga Foundation which raises funds and awareness about issues in Africa.
Isaiah encouraged Jabril to follow his dreams and to continue writing. Jabril said he was both overwhelmed and inspired by the meeting with Isaiah and he looks forward to the next time he's able to meet with Isaiah and exchange knowledge, work and insights.
